LMX Leasing
owned 100 B39-8E locomotives, 8500-8599, built by General Electric. They
were leased to BN, later BNSF, under a "power-by-the-hour" contract, the
terms of the lease are not as radical as the designation suggests. There
is a periodic minimum usage which must be met on a take-or-pay basis,
that minimum is set close to the units average milage. The purpose of
this lease is to avoid costly shop labor by making arrangements so that
the lessor maintains the units. The units are now for sale and some have
found their way to different shortlines.
